Self Introductory
This Natively made necklace from the Wounded Knee Memorial hangs in my car and reminds me of all the opportunities at my fingertips.

My car has driven me safely across the country and moved to three new states with me. This is the perfect thing to represent me.

News
Upcoming and current events going on on campus. Flyers advertising these activities posted in various halls all around campus.

A Tuesday night studying on campus at Westfield State University.
This is a typical dorm room in Lammers hall, decorated and lived in by a sophomore at Westfield State University.

Personality
Anna was my first friend on campus and one of my favorite things about her personality is how much she loves to read.
Anna is creative, artistic and loves to write. Her journal is a great representation of her.

3: Kitterly Knitting

You know those ads that are always popping up on the side of your Facebook page when you're just trying to scroll through your feed? Well while we ignore most of them, some of them are extremely eye catching, and really do the trick. That one little box of an ad can really draw in a whole new crowd of people wanting to learn more.
Well Kitterly is one of those companies using this strategy. Kitterly is a knitting and crocheting online business that specializes in selling kits to help people get started and help them keep moving forward in their knitting and/or crocheting goals.

From making simple scarves to complete sweaters designed for yourself or others, they have kits for all skill levels.

When trying to broaden their advertising and who they were reaching Kitterly began working with 565 Media, a popular online marketing company, and especially focusing on Facebook ads.
.
Since they started working with 565 Media and focusing on Facebook and reaching people via email they have increased revenue by 2.2 times what they had previously, along with 24% more web sessions with new customers.

Upon entering their website this particular ad appears, encouraging everyone to provide their email for coupons, updates and more.

Joining a Kit Club is even an option on their site for anyone who wants to participate in a monthly kit sent right to you to try new patterns with others. They even specialize it to you, allowing you to submit color and size requests with each new pattern provided.

2: NTVS The Originals

Social media is a great platform for any and all causes to have their voices heard who may otherwise have not had the opportunity. A particular cause near and dear to my own heart is that of 5.4 million American and Alaskan Natives living on and off 326 reservations across all 50 states. These indigenous people are faced with many severe problems and continuous cycles they are stuck in. They unwillingly carry with them numerous stereotypes holding them back and negatively separating them from the rest of the countries population. While most ethnicities in the United States are celebrated and encouraged to keep tradition alive, Native Americans face serious racism and pressure to simply give up their ways and assimilate to American society.

NTVS The Originals was started by Kiowan-Choctaw Native Steven Paul Judd who saw a gap in the market where American Indians needed to be heard and seen.
They are embracing their heritage and setting a trend for others, especially younger generations, to do the same and be proud of who they are and where they come from.
Judd wants to “make people think” in addition to creating cool designs that people will want to wear and advertise freely.

Design, print and shipping is all done in house, and the group works with multiple tribes all over the United States providing apparel for all ages.

A spin on a traditional English story, adapted into Native Culture.

Social media was a big way they were able to breakthrough onto the market with there new brand. They advertise on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and through their website they invite everyone to leave their email and to be added to their release date mailing list. Items sell out so quickly after being put up for sale, they’ve begun notifying people of upcoming release dates for new looks so you can grab them before they're gone.

Apparel such as these displayed on the website for sale exhibit historical moments for American Indians such as the take over of Alcatraz in 1969.

1: Introduction

My name is Katherine Gallagher and I'm a junior transfer to Westfield State University this year. I'm originally from Albany, New York but have been living and going to school for the last few years in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

I love to shoot and develop my own black and white film. Being in the Black Hills provided me with spectacular scenery and wild life as well as the school Rodeo team that I photographed at weekly events.

Living in Lakota Indian country only furthered my passion for American Indian culture and I am currently working towards a degree in American Indian Studies. My time in the Black Hills provided me with first hand experience on and off the reservation at what life for modern American Indians is like.
